on tour with the black keys
Sunday, November 16th, 2008Lightning Bolt on Halloween
Thursday, November 6th, 2008lightning bolt are a chaotic noise punk duo from Rhode Island and make some of the most exhilarating and unique music of our time. this music is not for everyone but they had a huge affect on me and my band when we discovered them in 2004. Their live show is brutally loud and intense… always playing on the floor with hoards of sweaty bodies lunging around spilling onto their drums and pedals. On Halloween i went to a show at the Forum in London entitled “release the bats” which was put on by the wonderful people from All Tomorrows Parties. Lightning Bolt started the night nice and early and i was in the front row enjoy every ear bleeding minute of it.
other highlights of the included my good friend Nicholas Abbott dangling the wild front man of Le Savy Fav over the 30 foot balcony of the huge theatre by his ankles. Tim Harrington screamed upside down into his Mic which miraculously was still attached to the stage 50 feet away. The appropriately long mic lead looking like a huge washing line. There was a enough danger and possibility that this Man could be dropped and fall to his doom (and most like a handful of unfortunate punters…have you seen the size of that guy?) to make the moment feel like a timeless rock n roll experience.
Shellac finished the night off blowing all the other bands off the stage. Sounding as relaxingly abrasive as they should and playing a set of most of my favourite shellac “classics”.
