Farewell US of A and Canada!!!!!

Monday, October 20th, 2008

I have spent most of my year touring around The United States and Canada. It has been an extremely interesting time to be there as you could imagine…
I have cultivated a lot of love for the US (Canada, don’t get jealous you know i love you unlike any other), met a bunch of amazing and inspiring people, witnessed breath taking landscapes and ate some pretty good burgers… but i must admit i am very relieved to leave and have my first proper break from touring this year.
For the first time in my life i feel like i have formed a valid opinion on this unique and powerful country, feeling so strongly in certain areas to the point of anxiety and anger. The place is bubbling with nervous anticipation and I imagine, like me, is looking forward to some relief of it’s own in the coming couple of weeks. Who knows if it will come? I guess escaping home to NZ for the summer is not something everyone has the fortune of. i feel very lucky.
I have always steered clear of the ‘politically outspoken musician’ path and have had to remind myself recently that making music can provide an escape from this bombardment of overwhelming news and all encompassing coverage. It makes me feel optimistic and hopeful that playing shows have as much of a cathartic effect on the audience as it does me. Bashing the shit out of drums has certainly made me a happier person and given me an euphoric escape from my relatively trivial problems. I am ever thankful to all the people who came out to the shows over this last year in the States, Canada (the the rest of the world) and i ‘cheers’ to hopeful times ahead!

Here are my photo’s from the amazing time i had over the 6 week tour of America and Canada. It was my first Headline tour of those countries and i was lucky enough to take kindred spirits ‘The Veils’ along for the ride. This time we even invested in a tour bus!!! I kinda grew up on these things… so many childhood memories of the world going by while sitting in the back lounge listening to music, or watching movies with dads bands… or perhaps lying in my coffin like bunk (it’s more romantic than it sounds) and dreaming of the day i would have my own tour bus… on my own tour… with my own friends…
Well that day came!!! and secretly i named this tour ‘Bus!!!No Parents!!!08′
